Is there any way to speed up an out of date phone? I have two one being the s3 and the other being the s4. I bought them off of a friend for $30 each. Both work fine but they are VERY slow even after wiping the software clean. I am not sure how to fix this. The s3 will also freeze up a lot when browsing online or using video related apps.
Yes. You want to use apps that will help it out. I recommend downloading SD Maid and File Commander for starters. Read up on other options. You want things that well help manage the files and memory on the phone while cleaning it up. It wont be fast as it was when it first came out but it should be a 50% improvement.
Andddy I can vouch for File Commander... so helpful when I was working with the SD card... magnificent.
IndyPhone +1 FileCommander the bomb!
I found that periodic factory resets help speed up the phone.
Andrei Factory resets have solved at least half of my problems on my Galaxy.
Older Galaxy devices seem to have tons of bloatware, you try disabling all the non-essential system apps. Installing a custom ROM like CyanogenMod could also upgrade and speed up the Galaxy S4 and S3.
If you do the resets, though, be careful as to backup your data first... Don't want to brick anything.
kchallenger Agreed.... I been lurking for a while, but this is a good statement, thanks! I will make backups more often.
I was thinking of just wiping the phone and rooting it. I am not sure how hard that is. I gave the apps a go and I did not see much of an improvement. It was back to normal the next day.
Why do you want to root it though?
If you're going to root it, get a good sec app and be careful installing from unknown sources.
If you don't have a lot on your phone, doing a full restart and wipe might help. I have done this before. Just save everything to an SD that you don't want to lose and clean it out. Sometimes one app can be causing a lot of the speed issues.
My Galaxy 4 hates Facebook. Will often completely shut down when I try to access it.
slehan Have you tried Facebook in a browser instead of the app?
I just read up on SD Maid and will be downloading and learning how to use it. Thanks for the tip.
Why do you think FileCommander is so good?
I like it mainly for the encryption techniques and because of the power of the app to work with all of the files/folders.
DipStick Same here... I think it's a good method for some people; but others may not like it.
kchallenger Well, I mean I don't do it every week or anything, but like once every few months... It just helps to start over plus i like to customise a bit
DipStick Gotcha!
